Glass that carries the room

GLASS AURA cuts, edges, silvers and installs flat glass from a workshop at Hathi Chowk, Saddar — decorative and made-to-measure mirrors, glass interiors, partitions, shower enclosures and architectural glazing, measured on site and fitted by the people who made them.

The range

Six disciplines
One workshop

Three round brass-edged mirrors hung as a cluster on a plaster wall, each holding a different part of the daylight.
01

Decorative mirrors

Round, arched, oval, capsule and hand-shaped mirrors made as objects rather than fittings. We draw the outline full size, cut it from a single sheet, work the edge by hand and hang it so the reflection sits where you want it — usually facing whatever light the room already has.

Frames are optional. A slim brass, blackened steel or stainless rim can be wrapped around the finished glass, or the bevel itself can be left as the only edge detail.

Glass
4mm and 6mm silvered float
Edges
Flat polish, pencil round, 15–25mm bevel
Options
Brass / steel rim, antique or smoked silvering, sandblasted borders
A soft-cornered mirror set out on a wall between pencilled fixing lines, its wide bevel drawing a bright frame around the reflection.
02

Custom mirrors

Made to your opening, not to a catalogue size. We measure the recess, allow for walls that are never quite square, and cut the sheet to suit — including radius corners, notches for switches and taps, and cut-outs for lights.

Backlit and demisting mirrors are built up in the workshop: the LED channel and the heater pad are bonded to the back, the wiring is dressed to one point, and the whole panel arrives ready for an electrician to connect.

Sizes
Up to 2440 × 1830mm in one piece
Build-ups
Backlit halo, front-lit strips, demister pad, safety backing film
Fixing
Concealed cleat, mirror clip, or bonded to a ply sub-frame
Bronze back-painted glass wall panels with fine open joints, crossed by a slim glass shelf whose polished edge catches the light.
03

Glass interiors

Surfaces rather than openings: back-painted wall panels and splashbacks, shelving, table and console tops, wardrobe and cabinet fronts, and mirrored returns that give a narrow room its second half.

Back-painted colour is matched to a sample and sprayed on the reverse face, so the colour reads through the glass with depth instead of sitting on top of it. Every exposed edge is polished, and panels meet on an even shadow joint.

Panels
5mm and 6mm back-painted, tinted or low-iron glass
Tops
10mm and 12mm toughened, polished all round
Finishes
Gloss, matt, metallic, acid-etched, mirrored
A steel-framed glass partition in a bright room, its dark grid throwing a long shadow across the floor.
04

Glass partitions

Room dividers that keep the daylight where it is. Slim steel-framed screens in a black or bronze grid, or frameless runs of toughened glass with polished joints and floor-to-ceiling channels.

For offices we set out the grid against the ceiling and the floor finish first, so bars land on module lines rather than in the middle of a desk. Doors can be hinged, pivoted or sliding, with a matching rail and a soft-close track.

Glass
10mm / 12mm toughened, clear, tinted or acid-etched
Frames
Mild steel, aluminium or frameless with channel
Extras
Double-glazed acoustic screens, manifestation banding, door hardware
A frameless shower screen beaded with water, its polished vertical edge and chrome hinges lit from the side.
05

Shower glass

Frameless enclosures cut to the tiled opening after the tiling is done, never before. Screens, hinged doors, sliding runs and walk-in panels in toughened glass, with stabiliser bars where the span needs one.

Every enclosure is set out for fall and drainage, silicone is kept to the wet side, and glass is supplied with a factory-applied water-repellent coat so limescale has less to hold on to.

Glass
8mm, 10mm and 12mm toughened safety glass
Finishes
Clear, low-iron, acid-etched, reeded, grey or bronze tint
Hardware
Chrome, brushed nickel, matt black, brass
A raking view up a glazed facade, sky and cloud breaking across the panels between dark mullions.
06

Architectural glass

The structural side of the trade: shopfronts and entrance doors, curtain-wall infill, canopies, glass balustrades with standoff fixings, stair screens and skylight units.

Anything at height or across a fall is specified in laminated or toughened-laminated glass, with interlayer, thickness and fixing chosen for the span and exposure rather than for the price of the sheet.

Make-ups
Toughened, heat-soaked, laminated, insulated units
Systems
Spider fittings, standoffs, channel, patch-fitted doors
Coatings
Reflective, low-E, solar-control, ceramic frit

Custom work

Measured on site
Made in the workshop

Most of what leaves the workshop is one of a kind. A bespoke job runs through the same six stages every time, and the same person who took the measurement is on site when the glass goes up.

We take the survey ourselves because a mirror is unforgiving: a wall out of plumb by four millimetres will show at the top edge, and a recess that narrows towards the back will stop a sheet 30mm short of home. Templates are cut in the room, not drawn from a sketch, and the finished piece is dry-fitted before any adhesive is opened.

  1. 01

    Survey

Openings, levels, plumb and services recorded on site, with photographs of anything the glass has to work around.

  2. 02

    Setting out

The shape is drawn full size, radii struck from a centre, and cut-outs positioned against the actual fittings.

  3. 03

    Cutting

Sheets scored and run on the bench, shapes taken out on the wet saw, holes and notches drilled before any toughening.

  4. 04

    Edgework

Arrised, ground, flat- or pencil-polished, or bevelled — the edge treatment chosen for how close the eye will get to it.

  5. 05

    Finishing

Silvering, antiquing, sandblasting, tinting, back-painting, LED build-up, safety backing, then toughening or lamination where required.

  6. 06

    Fixing

Delivered on edge, dry-fitted, packed and levelled, bonded or clipped, and cleaned off before we leave the room.

GLASS AURA is a glass and mirror workshop in Saddar, in the run of glass merchants around Hathi Chowk, working across Rawalpindi and Islamabad for homeowners, interior designers, architects and fit-out contractors.

The trade here is old and the equipment is simple: a felted bench, a straight-edge, a wet saw, edging and bevelling wheels, a drill, a silvering line and a van. What decides the quality of a finished mirror is not the machinery but the discipline around it — an honest measurement, a square cut, an edge worked to the same profile all the way round, and a fixing that will still be tight in ten years.

We buy float glass, low-iron, tinted and mirror stock in full sheets and cut everything to order, which is why odd sizes and awkward shapes cost no more per square foot than standard ones. Toughening and lamination are done through processors we have used for years; heat-soaked toughened glass is specified for anything overhead or structural.

Most work is quoted after a site visit. For small pieces you can send dimensions and photographs and we will come back with a price the same day, but for anything set into a recess, fixed at height or cut around services, we would rather measure it ourselves.

Rawalpindi & Islamabad

Four tall mirror panels running along a lobby wall, each carrying the window and the floor beyond it.

01   Apartment lobby, Rawalpindi

Mirrored wall, four panels

A narrow entrance lobby doubled in width by a run of four 6mm mirror panels, hung on concealed cleats with a 6mm shadow joint between them so the wall reads as a set of panels rather than one sheet. Edges polished flat, no frame.

A soft-cornered mirror above a basin, a halo of warm light escaping from behind its edges onto a dark wall.

02   Bathroom refit, Islamabad

Backlit vanity mirror

A radius-cornered mirror built up with a concealed LED channel and a demister pad, sized to the basin below it and set out to clear the tap. Wiring dressed to a single point behind the vanity unit.

A frameless glass balustrade climbing a flight of stairs on round standoff fixings, with a slim metal handrail above it.

03   Private house, Rawalpindi

Stair balustrade, frameless

Toughened-laminated panels carried on stainless standoffs through the stringer, with a slim capped handrail above. Panel joints set out from the nosing line so the glass steps with the flight instead of cutting across it.

A run of glass office screens receding towards a bright window, dark posts between the panels and light pooling on the floor.

04   Office fit-out, Saddar

Partition run and meeting screen

Ten-millimetre toughened screens in slim steel posts, set out on the ceiling grid, with a pivoting glass door and a band of acid-etched manifestation at eye height. Installed over two nights around a working floor.
